The Care Certificate is a set of 15 standards to teach care workers, such as healthcare assistants, assistant practitioners or any person 'new to care', the fundamental introductory knowledge, skills and behaviours to deliver high-quality care and support.
On successful completion of each standard, the certificate will be awarded and recognised by many employers and the CQC.
Read more about it in our blog post: What Is The Care Certificate?
The Care Certificate isn't a legal requirement but the Care Quality Commission (CQC) does refer to it in their regulations and it is an expectation for care workers in a residential, domiciliary and day care setting.
Long story short, it isn't part of legislation but you will be inspected against it by the CQC.
Yes! We do the care certificate as an online course including all 15 standards to help you cover the knowledge, skills and behaviour expected in the health and social care sector.
You can buy it once from just £30 or sign up to our Unlimited subscription plan from just 40p per month/per person and get the online Care Certificate free of charge AND access to all our other digital care courses!
The short answer is no. The care certificate isn't a qualification, but it is as useful as a qualification because you can show to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that you have met the statutory requirements on staff training under regulation 18.
18(2)(a) states: “Providers must ensure that they have an induction programme that prepares staff for their role. It is expected that providers that employ healthcare assistants and social care support workers should follow the Care Certificate standards to make sure new staff are supported, skilled and assessed as competent to carry out their roles.”
Our online Care Certificate course varies in length as it can be taken at your own pace and in your own time to complete. The Care Certificate online course is covering all the 15 care standards in their extensive form and offers all the information needed for a solid knowledge base that empowers the certified care worker to have a solid start in a career in this industry. The course feedback we received from our database of learners has proven that on average the Care Certificate takes usually between 3-5 hours to complete.
Once the training course has been successfully completed, the Care Certificate doesn't expire, so you won't have to study or retake the exam again unless you no longer retain the competences required by the Care Certificate or important legislative changes occur. In which case our course will be updated and ready for you to retake it.
The Care Certificate is for anyone that works in health and social care, including Health Care Assistants, Assistant Practitioners, Care Support Workers and those giving support to clinical roles in the NHS where there is any direct contact with patients.
It’s designed for new staff but it is also a useful refresher for existing staff. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) expects all health and social care providers to provide the Care Certificate course to their staff.
You complete the Care Certificate by completing all 15 standards in full.
