This Emergency Paediatric First Aid training course teaches learners what emergency scenarios they may be faced with when looking after babies and young children, including responsiveness, choking, seizures and bleeding. Any newly qualified entrants to the early years workforce who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification can be included in the required staff:child ratio if they gain an Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate within 3 months of starting work.

This training is available as a blended Emergency Paediatric First Aid training course, meaning you will do part of this course online and the other face-to-face to save time and money while benefitting from the same quality training. Upon completion, learners will receive an Emergency Paediatric First Aid training certificate.

Please note that the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework states that only those holding a full certificate can be counted towards the required number of supervising adults in a childcare setting. Due to this course only being day one of the full certificate, this course in particular, will not fulfil this requirement but opens the pathway to getting fully certified in Paediatric First Aid. This Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is better suited for those that are working as part of a team with other staff who hold a full certificate. What is Emergency Paediatric First Aid training? Emergency Paediatric First Aid training courses are for newly qualified level 2 or 3 early years childcare staff, including nursery staff, nannies, au pairs or parents who work as part of a team with other staff who hold a full Paediatric First Aid certificate. This course is recommended for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets Childcare Registration requirements.

However, the EYFS statutory framework states at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present. In order to fulfil this requirement and for full compliance with paediatric first aid, you must take the Paediatric First Aid course instead. What's the difference between Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Paediatric First Aid? The difference between Emergency First Aid and Paediatric First Aid is that the Emergency First Aid course is only part of the full paediatric first aid certification, whereas the Paediatric First Aid course gives learners the full certification.

As mentioned in the above answer, the Emergency First Aid course is for all newly qualified entrants to the early years workforce who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification on or after 30 June 2016. They must gain a certificate within 3 months of starting work to be included in the required staff:child ratios.

The Paediatric First Aid course is for those who require a full paediatric first aid certificate. If you are a childminder who works alone on the Compulsory Ofsted Register or you're the appointed person in sole charge of the children, then you must take the Paediatric First Aid course in order to meet the requirements from the EYFS statutory framework.
